Meaning
Blue symbolizes the water and the sky, white symbolizes purity and peace; green symbolizes nature and fertility (but is also interpreted as a sign of Islam). Two thin red stripes cross the flag almost like veins under and above the white stripe. These stripes actually symbolize the lifeblood of the people, which intimately connects all symbolic areas. At the top left is a white crescent moon and twelve small stars. Although the crescent is considered a sign of Islam, but in this flag it symbolizes the rebirth of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The symbolism of the 12 stars is somewhat controversial. They symbolize either the 12 months of the calendar or/and the 12 provinces of Uzbekistan. Flag since Nov. 18, 1991.
