Background knowledge
The flag of the Torres Strait Islands has two dark green horizontal stripes at the top and bottom. Each of them is followed by a narrow black stripe. In the middle it shows a blue stripe, in the center of which is a dhari (dancer's headdress) and a pentagonal star below it.Green symbolizes the land, black the people, blue the sea and white peace.The five corners of the star represent the five groups of the island:- the eastern,- central,- and western parts, as well as- Port Kennedy region and- North Peninsula region.
