Background knowledge
The flag of Carinthia consists of three stripes: yellow, red and white. In the center it shows a coat of arms, which is yellow on the left and shows three lions. On the right it shows three stripes in the colors red-white-red.
This flag dates back to the 19th century, but the coat of arms is on the flag only in 1930. The colors red, yellow and white are derived from the coat of arms. This shows a split shield. On the left side three black lions on a golden background and on the right side the Austrian shield of the Babenbergs.
